I can’t say exactly, as I sit here in front of this computer screen

 rather than actually being in an intense situation calling for me to “step up to the plate.” I believe if a friend were in a dire situation that would require immediate, dangerous action on my part, I would extremely quickly seek to assess if the situation was indeed salvageable. If so, yes, I would do as much as possible.

I have to be honest. I can more strongly say “yes” to the question for my beloved family members. Right or wrong, that’s being honest.

Too, it depends on how many people. For example, if there were several helpless people needing my help, even if they were not my friends or acquaintances, I would, at very least, place myself in a large degree of danger seeking to save them. So, several people, vs. one person, would make a difference to me.
